Alumni News: Hao Mei PDF Print E-mail
Hao Mei (MS 2003) writes with an update. After obtaining his UW MS BHI degree (working with Tony Rossini and Peter Tarczy-Hornoch) he went on to PhD studies at North Carolina State University working with Dr.  Eden Martin and Dr. Bruce Weir. His PhD research was done at the Center for Human Genetics of Duke University with industrial research assistantship. His PhD projects aimed to develop novel methods for mapping complex human diseases by applying bioinformatics technique and statistical theory. Programs for these methods were developed to help the gene mapping process. These methods were successfully applied to detect high-order gene-gene interaction underlying Autism disease. Six paper related to those methods and gene mapping were published or under publication. He passed his PhD general exam from the Statistics department in 2005 and his PhD general exam from the Bioinformatics department in 2006. He just passed his final PhD defense in May 2007 of his thesis titled: "Novel Methods for Mapping Complex Disease".
