Post Doctoral Program PDF Print E-mail
The Biomedical and Health Informatics program offers a modest number of postdoctoral training fellowships, funded by the National Library of Medicine and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.  These fellowships typically begin on July 1st of each year, and are usually of two-year duration.  The formal deadline for application is January 15th.  Postdoctoral Fellowship recipients are required to have an earned doctoral-level degree from an accredited domestic or foreign institution in hand at the time of appointment. Note that eligibility for these fellowships is limited to US citizens and permanent residents.

Prospective applicants for a postdoctoral fellowship should contact the program office in advance of the deadline to indicate their interests and discuss our research culture and admissions process.  It is important that we receive the following items no later than January 15th, emailed to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

An email indicating the applicant’s interest and contact information (address, phone, preferred email) for yourself and three recommenders, with the following attachments (pdfs preferred):

  • A statement of purpose--in three pages or less--outlining why you're applying for this fellowship, your research experience to date, what you'd intend to do at UW, faculty members you would like to work with, and why we should think you'd be a great candidate.  We assess these carefully and strive to be transparent, so don't hesitate to ask if you want any clarification on what we're looking for in this statement.
  • A current CV.
  • Undergraduate and graduate transcripts to date.  Note that if you pass initial screening we'll need official transcripts.  (Alternatively you can arrange to have official transcripts sent directly to our program office at the address below).
Your recommenders should email statements separately that speak to your potential and ability to engage in solid independent research. We generally expect attached pdfs of these letters of recommendation but we also accept hard copy letters, which should be mailed to the program office at this address; hard copies of official transcripts should also be addressed to this office:
